Action Planning Template
Each classroom on my campus is equipped with 5
computers, ceiling mounted multi-media projectors, USB enabled document
cameras, eInstruction interactive mobile whiteboards, and a wireless overhead classroom audio and microphone
system that disperses sound evenly throughout the room. Each teacher is given a laptop and there are
laptop carts and SmartBoards available.
Even with all this technology available there are faculty members who
only use the required programs such as email, online attendance, and
grading. We are spending money on
technology on our campus, but lots of the available hardware remains in
classroom closets. I feel the main
reason for this disconnect is training.
Teachers are given new equipment and maybe a quick, large group staff
development on how to use it, but there is not a support system for continued
growth.

I like this a lot, one of the problems on our campus is keeping the mobile technology up and running, one of the items that has been suggested is a sign-out sheet for the students to give them accountability for the equipment. Keeping it up and plugging it in when the work is complete. An idea to share.
ReplyDeleteThis is great. It's a shame when technology sits unused. I think your mini workshops will be better recieved. There is a book called Teach Like a Techie that might help with your mini workshops. It has a great teacher survey as well. Good luck.
ReplyDeleteAre you going to offer the classes to anyone? Are you going to survey everyone? Are you going to have a controlled group?
ReplyDeleteI think this plan is awesome. Teachers are excited to get new technology but don't have time to teach themselves how to use it. If you are going to have it set up, teach them and be available for help there won't be any room for excuses. I am anxious to see if this works for those that are "scared" of technology.
Do you have interactive white boards and are going to connect the mobis to the boards? I think too that to know if you have increased usage of technology, you need to know how much technology you have at the start of the study. Are you going to do an inventory of what is currently available?
ReplyDeleteThis looks great. Why do some teachers tend to shun technology? I think it's the mystery of the ages. Hope you find the answer.
All the teachers have mounted projectors, document cameras, a sound system, whiteboards and the Mobis. The Mobis are actually portable interactive whiteboards that are then projected onto the screen. You can also use more than one Mobi at a time in a classroom. I have a current inventory of the school and aware of the technology available. My district has done a good job of trying to keep the technology equitable throughout the classrooms which will help with my research.
ReplyDeleteSounds like your school district has provided the materials but there is a lack of training and enabling on the teachers part to use the technology. I think this is a really great research plan and one that addresses the needs of lots of school districts. I have teachers on my campus who have been doing the same thing since they started teaching 30 years ago and just won't use technology. At some point you have to encourage and get these teachers better trained to move along with future.
ReplyDeleteI like your plan. This is a noble cause. I am sure the teachers will need training on how to use the devices. The fact that you will continue to check on teacher progress will help remind them to find ways to implement this technology. The hardest part will be getting teachers to try something new.
ReplyDeleteTrying something new is my biggest concern. I was just going over this week's assignments and noticed our discussion was about challenges we foresee and that will be one of my biggest.
DeleteThis is a great idea for a research plan. Technology is my biggest weakness as a teacher. In middle school, it's hard to access as well. I think giving teachers time and some guidelines will help you. The older teachers, like myself, have a bit more hesistancy to try technology because we are so unfamiliar with it. Good luck!
